It also takes the right training program. If you’re considering the Practical Nursing program at Prism Career Institute, learn more about what to expect with insights from Na’Taasha Brown, a former student and practical nurse (PN).Na’Taasha’s Student Experience“I’ve always wanted to be a nurse,” explains Na’Taasha, a Philadelphia native, when asked what drew her to her chosen field. A student from 2016 to 2018, Na’Taasha says deciding on Prism Career Institute was an easy choice after hearing about the Practical Nursing program from a TV commercial and stopping by campus to gain more information. Now working as a private duty nurse as well as at a skilled nursing facility, Na’Taasha says that she can apply everything she learned through the program to her current career: most of all “patience”, jokes the former student. “Everything I learned is helping me now – medical skills, medication administration and dosage, anatomy, terminology. Pretty much everything, honestly,” she says. Additionally, Na’Taasha notes that she’s earning a better income than she did at jobs held before becoming a PN.Flexibility was another big plus for Na’Taasha when it came to attending Prism Career Institute. With the option to attend classes Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., and every other weekend from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., she was able to train for a new career, work, and be there as a parent. “It went well with my work schedule and getting my son to and from school and home, and getting him settled before I had to be in class,” she says.Faculty support was another highlight of Na’Taasha’s experience. She explains, “The staff was very helpful and very good in their respective skills. I’m still in contact with quite a few of them, even now with me being out of school since 2018. They still call and make sure that everything’s ok and ask if I’m looking for any jobs. It’s a really good program.”Achieving Her GoalExcelling as a student turned out to be easy for Na’Taasha, so much so that when it came time to sit for her NCLEX licensing exam, she passed on the first try. “They were there the whole way,” Na’Taasha recalls about the support of her former educators.Currently studying for her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Na’Taasha credits her determination, her drive to help others, and the support she received from Prism Career Institute in helping her achieve her dreams to become a nurse. Her advice to prospective students? “Go for it and never give up.”Get the Training You Need and the Support You Deserve at Prism Career InstituteIf you’re ready to pursue a new career, apply to Prism Career Institute’s Practical Nursing program.
