“We have brought in Prism students as part of their externship program and hired selected graduates on a full- and part-time basis,” said Joe Malott, executive vice president with Tri State.
As a way to strengthen its relationship with Tri-State, Prism created a volunteer-to-hire program with the organization. Graduates work for a period of 15 days while they are being trained.
“If all goes well, they are offered a part-time position with the potential for full-time employment,” said Renai Ellison, director of career services at Prism Career Institute Upper Darby.
Malott’s division provides back office support for the 48 centers, with six separate departments that include billing, accounts receivable, collections, payment posting, insurance verification and credentialing.
“Prism graduates have proven to be well-versed in medical technology, billing procedures and have mostly been able to quickly adapt to our way of doing business,” he said. “This takes the lengthy screening process for prospective candidates out of the equation. Prism has been extremely helpful in sending me the best students they have to offer.”
The four recent hires include Kym Carmickel, Scott Carroll, Hassan Hart and Khalief Wylie, all students in the medical assistant program who have joined Tri-State’s billing department.
“These four new hires are working part-time at the current time and they have all exhibited a high energy level and willingness to do whatever it takes to have their employment evolve into a full time position,” Malott added.
During a recent graduation ceremony, Prism Career Institute presented Malott with an “Employer of the Year” award.
