As you get ready for your first day of class, you probably have a few questions about program requirements, what to wear, and perhaps, what supplies you’ll need. Here, we outline some basics, so you can feel confident from day one.
Courses
The Medical Assistant Program consists of 720 clock hours, 570 of which will be spent acquiring crucial knowledge and skills in a classroom setting. Courses you will complete include: Anatomy and Physiology 1, 2 and 3, Medical Law and Ethics, Professional Communication, Patient Hygiene/Infection Control, Patient History/Vital Signs/CPR, EKG (Electrocardiography), Phlebotomy, Records Management, Career Development, Clinical Procedures and Pharmacology.
Externship
A mandatory requirement of the Medical Assistant Program, the clinical externship is your chance to take what you’ve learned in the classroom and apply it to real-world situations. During the externship, you’ll work alongside medical assisting professionals in a designated setting, such as a private clinic, laboratory or hospital. Keep in mind: externships can have day, evening or weekend hours to accommodate your on-campus course schedule.

Dress Policy
Whether you’re in class, in the lab or at an externship, wearing a scrub uniform is one of the Medical Assistant Program requirements you’ll need to abide by. In addition to dressing in scrubs, you’ll also need to maintain a professional appearance – that means practicing good personal hygiene and grooming habits.
