Prerequisites for Applicants to the Medical Assistant Program
The first step is to meet the prerequisites required for admission to the medical assistant program. Prism Career Institute requires that applicants:
- Are 18 years or older
- Supply proof of high school graduation or a GED certificate
Admissions Requirements for the Medical Assistant Program
If the student has received their GED certificate or graduated from high school, and meets the age requirement, they are ready to progress to the next steps. These include:
- Meeting the prerequisites for making an application
- Completing an initial questionnaire for evaluation
- Interviewing with an admissions representative*
- Taking the school entrance exam and earning a passing score**
*During the admissions interview, our representative listens to the prospective student and discusses their goals and life circumstances. Through this interview process, the representative will be able to help the student determine whether they want to apply for financial aid, or if they would benefit from further preparation for the program. After the interview, the admissions representative will either recommend that the prospective student apply to the program or advise them to pursue more preparation and interview again at a later date.
**The school entrance exam for the medical assistant program is called the TABE, which stands for Test of Adult Basic Education. It is developed and administered by an independent organization. A score of 15 is required for admission to the medical assistant program at Prism Career Institute.
